Largo

Largo
The city of Largo is located only 23 miles from the city of Tampa.

Largo is found on the Gulf Coast of the state of Florida in Pinellas County. It is the third biggest city in that county and is only 23 miles from the city of Tampa. Clearwater is only four miles to the north while St. Petersburg is only 17 miles to the southeast. The winters in Largo are generally warmer compared to mainland Florida. There are only a few colleges in Largo and there are less than 1,000 students but there are more colleges in the nearby municipalities of Palm Harbor, St. Petersburg, Clearwater and Tampa.

Students in Largo colleges need to understand that the economy of Largo was previously based on agriculture with the city having the reputation as top provider of citrus. However, the huge gain in the number of residents that started in the 1960s had converted the city into a commuter town. This means that it is an urban community where most of the members of the workforce living there travel to other municipalities to get to work. This kind of city is also known as a bedroom community because the workers sleep there but go elsewhere for work.

Graduates of Largo colleges may look forward to employment in nearby cities and towns, such as Tampa, Clearwater and St. Petersburg. For example, in Tampa, there are a large number of corporations in finance, retail, real estate, service and insurance and they include a number of Fortune 1000 corporations. In addition, students considering enrollment in colleges in Largo may also find some work in the city itself in companies that are primarily involved in retail sales and services. Those who plan to enroll in healthcare-related courses may also be interested to note that hospitals in the city are expected to require more workers to cope with the requirements of an aging population.
