New Orleans

While the city of New Orleans has become synonymous with Mardi Gras, Hurricane Katrina, and most recently to 2010 Super Bowl championship football team, the rich cultural history and fine array of colleges in New Orleans, make it a wonderful city for completing one’s education. Being both a major sea port for the United States, as well as the largest city in Louisanna, New Orleans offers all the culture and recreational amenities of a major metropolis. But, “the Big Easy,” as it is endearingly known, is famous for its rich French roots and multicultural history. The city is seventy percent minority, according to 2000 Census, giving it a unique ratio of inhabitants. New Orleans is also a semi-tropical destination with short, mild winters, and hot, humid summers. Here, the student will find the best Jazz music in the world, as well as a unique and infamous Cajun cuisine, in the myriad of bars and establishments that line the French Quarter. In addition, the city boasts the famous Bourbon St, as well as classic French architecture, unique steamboat opportunities, and a plethora of boutiques and unusual shops. And, of course, there’s always Mardi Gras.
In addition to being an exciting and energetic area, New Orleans colleges include a total of eight four year universities, including a major public research school, as well as two community colleges and several technical and professional schools. The number of colleges in New Orleans has given the city itself thirty percent of residents with a bachelor’s degree, and being one of the largest and busiest ports in the world, the city has a booming economy just beginning to flourish once again after being devastated by Hurricane Katrina. The city has one Fortune 500 company, along with a large oil business, many opportunities in tourism and hospitality, and even in federal government
