Situated on the banks of the Mississippi river, Minneapolis, Minnesota is a beautiful and vibrant city with a wide array of educational, cultural, and recreational opportunities. The Minneapolis and adjoining St. Paul area is the 13th largest population in the United States, and hosts a myriad of technical schools, community colleges, private four year colleges, and even a Big Ten University, who hosts more than 50,000 of Minneapolis colleges’ students alone. The city boasts a minority population of 30%, along with a rich history of Scandinavian immigration that provides some of the city’s unique culture. The area is the second largest region of theater activity, behind only New York, and also offers a wide variety of arts and musical entertainment venues. The city also has a number of professional sporting teams, and boasts the best designed park system in America. The climate is cold and dry in the winter and warm and humid in the summer, making it a pleasant location.
The variety of Minneapolis colleges and universities, along with several career and professional colleges in Minneapolis city limits boast some of the most highly honored libraries and research facilities in the United States. Forty percent of citizens are bachelor’s degree holders, many of which have attended colleges in Minneapolis, and the city has a booming economy due largely in part to its commerce and finance districts, as well as its rail and trucking services, and health care industries. The city also houses five Fortune 500 companies, and was named the “Top Tech City” in 2005 as well as a part of the 2006 Kiplinger’s poll “Smart Places to Live.”
Overall, the vibrant entertainment and cultural aspects of the city, along with its booming economy, and diverse higher education institutions, make it a great place to study.
