The independent city of Chesapeake is found in the southeastern part of the state of Virginia and is only 11 miles to Norfolk. In terms of land area, it is the second biggest city in Virginia. It is bounded by Portsmouth and Norfolk to the north, Virginia Beach to the east, Camden County and Currituck County to the south, and Suffolk to the west.
There are at least seven Chesapeake colleges and there are as many in towns and cities close by, such as Hampton, Newport News, Virginia Beach, and Norfolk. They offer associate degrees, master’s degrees, and certificates for various programs of study, including massage therapy, legal assistant, computer science, information science, business management, clinical assistant, aircraft maintenance. Some of the colleges in Chesapeake offer various degrees for surgical technician, cardiovascular technician, licensed practical nurse, and registered nurse.
Other programs of study that are available through Chesapeake colleges include medical support, medical technology, medical administration, leisure, engineering technician, engineering, design, law enforcement, medical support, hospitality management, social work, computer engineering, cosmetology, nutrition, therapy, and office administration.
Students who desire to enroll in one of the universities and colleges in Chesapeake may find it desirable that while the city is quite small, it is only a few minutes away from Norfolk where various teams for ice hockey, baseball, and soccer are playing. And in Chesapeake itself, there are various opportunities relaxation and recreation, including a park with foot trail, crabbing and fishing areas, a big play area and boat ramp; a multi-purpose trail for walkers, joggers, horseback riders and bicyclists; a planetarium; a park with foot trails and pedestrian bridge; and an art gallery.
For those who prefer small communities, Chesapeake is ideal for those seeking higher education degrees because there are less than a thousand students enrolled in the less than 10 colleges and universities.
