Newport News is not only the epitome of the American South, being one of the original communities in the colony of Virginia, but it’s serene location along the Virginia Peninsula, and it’s rich cultural and recreational opportunities, make it a lovely location to pursue one’s higher education at any number of Newport News colleges. This city, part of the Hampton Roads metropolis, was aptly named for the original title of the James River, which flows through the city limits. Among the top industries in Newport News are military and aerospace, along with shipbuilding and maritime business.
