Norfolk is the second largest city in the state of Virginia.

Norfolk colleges include three public universities and one private college, including one of the largest predominantly African American institutions in the country, as well as a community college, and a number of career colleges offering a variety of special interests, and technical institutes. Norfolk colleges also have several special research and grant facilities. Norfolk’s water bound location provides most of the city’s major industries for international trade, military defense contracting, cargo ports, manufacturing, shipping, and communications. With a cruise ship pier and many cultural activities, tourism is also a driving force in Norfolk’s economy.
