Communication can take many forms, but one of the most prevalent ways that businesses and other organizations communicate with the public is through the use of visuals, including photos, drawings, graphics, charts and text. Visual Communication Description

For most individuals who specialize in Visual Communications, college-level classes are necessary, and must include courses in art, drawing, computer aided design, printing, and website design. While completing our Visual Communications degree, you will not only cover the theories behind all these topics, but will gain immersive first hand experience through labs and practical work.

After completing our degree in visual communications, college grads can expect to find themselves in a fast paced work environment where they will be able to work on all aspects of communication with a variety of clients. Whether creating advertisements for multinational corporations or laying out websites for independent small business, the visual communications specialist must determine the needs of the client, develop visuals and integrate text to meet those needs, and produce a high quality model or finished piece that accomplishes all the client's goals.

Visual Communication Careers

Graphic Designers are the most common type of visual communication specialist. Traditionally, Graphic Designers focus on print media, and will often use computer software to combine, edit and modify photos, graphics and text. Web Designers, like Graphic Designers, are responsible for laying out and combining pictures, graphics and text, but specialize in optimizing those elements for use in an online environment. Finally, a Multimedia Specialist is someone who takes visual communication a step further, by integrating other types of media, such as sound and video, into a piece of visual design such as a website.

Each of these career specializations requires a Visual Communications degree, and for people who successfully complete visual communications college programs, the job market is currently very good. Those willing to work in web design or on online media will be in high demand for years to come.
