The city of Indianapolis is divided into six cultural districts, each of which boasts its own unique restaurants, activities and cultural events. Known as the country’s unofficial amateur sports capital, Indianapolis has been the site of numerous Olympic trials, the Pan-American Games, and the Indianapolis 500 car race. The city is also the home of the National Basketball Association Pacers and the National Football League Colts. Many of the Indianapolis colleges are affiliated with these libraries and various research centers such as the Hudson Institute, the Indianapolis Zoo, the Indianapolis Children’s Museum, and the Indiana Department of Education. Popular areas of research for students at colleges in Indianapolis include medicine, biology and environmental issues. The city’s economy is based primarily around industry, agriculture and transportation. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the area has a worker productivity rate that is higher than the national average, with manufacturing, health care and retail being the most popular fields of work.
