Information Sciences and Technology is a major offered at 19 campuses with 142 faculty state wide and 42 faculty at the University Park main campus. There are 5 associate degree options and 2 bachelor’s degree majors. 89 students are currently studying IST as a graduate school option.

The College of Information Sciences and Technology (IST) was built to help develop a new generation of leaders that would meet the complex and compelling demands of the Digital Age at this Pennsylvania university. IST opened in 1999 in response to the rapidly growing need in almost every field for leadership in information sciences and technology. Today, this college in Pennsylvania is a leader among an emerging new group in higher education known as i-schools, or information schools.

IST offers three interdisciplinary baccalaureate degree programs: a bachelor of science in security and risk analysis, a bachelor of science in information sciences and technology, and a bachelor of arts in information sciences and technology.

With a degree from IST, University Park college students can go where they want with information technology, from healthcare to the government. Several minors are available for students throughout the University who are looking to build an academic program that includes courses in information sciences and technology.

The College of Information Science and Technology of this college in Pennsylvania was created in 1997. Dean of the Graduate School, Rod Erickson, was appointed by Penn State President Graham Spanier to lead a strategic planning group that produced plans for the School of Information Sciences and Technology (IST) which admitted the first students into the IST program for the Fall 1999 semester.

The Information Sciences and Technology Building is located on the west campus of this Pennsylvania college’s University Park campus. The building is home to the College of Information Sciences and Technology and the Computer Science and Engineering department.

The building of this college in Pennsylvania was formally opened in 2004. The 199,000-square-foot building was designed by Rafael Vinoly Architects in New York, New York and Perfido Weiskopf Architects in the city in Pennsylvania of Pittsburgh. The architecture was inspired by the Ponte Vecchio in Florence, Italy. The construction of the building of this University Park college cost $58.8 million to complete.

The largest classroom in the building of the Pennsylvania college is the Cybertorium. The Cybertorium seats up to 150 people in a movie theater style venue, which features a high tech sound system, one computer for every two seats, and large projection screen for presenters to use.

University Park is a city in Pennsylvania that is an unincorporated community in Centre County. This city in Pennsylvania sits within the State College Metropolitan Statistical Area, which encompasses all of Centre County. Most of University Park sits within the borough of State College, while the northeastern part of campus is within College Township.

While most of this campus of the University Park college of Pennsylvania State University is located in the borough of State College, Pennsylvania, the campus post office was designated University Park, Pennsylvania in 1953 when university president Milton Eisenhower changed the name of the Pennsylvania State College to the present Pennsylvania State University.
